People in The Square

A Place to Enjoy

Axbridge today is a thriving, welcoming community with an exceptional calendar of events including The Blackberry Carnival & Fair, Axbridge Fun Day, the Progressive Supper and Santa in the Square.

The town residents are endlessly creative and regularly put on live music and DJ nights, comedy shows, theatre shows, exhibitions and pop-up events.  Every ten years Axbridge tells the story of its history through The Axbridge Pageant, which is the last pageant of its kind in the country.  It is an epic theatrical time machine telling the story of the town and its people performed in The Square over the August bank holiday.

Once a month Axbridge hosts a farmers’ market with stallholders selling delicious and delightful foods, drinks and crafts. The town has 2 pubs – The Lamb Inn and The Oak House, an awarding winning café The Almshouse and Ripleys Antiques shop offering a selection of drinks and snacks.

Walk the Axbridge Heritage Trail to learn more about interesting buildings in Axbridge.  The trail includes blue plaques on forty old and interesting buildings.  If you scan the QR codes in the windows you’ll find out more about the history of the properties and the people who lived in them.

How to Get Here!

Many visitors to Axbridge get here by bicycle, as Axbridge sits near the centre of The Strawberry Line, a foot and cycle path linking Yatton and Cheddar with plans for it to continue to Shepton Mallet. For drivers, there are two public car parks, short term parking in The Square and on-street parking around the town – although we ask you to park considerately.  The regular 126 bus service between Weston-super-Mare and Wells stops at various points through the town and the Falcon Bus running from Plymouth to Bristol stops nearby on the A38.

Axbridge is also an excellent base for people holidaying in the Southwest with Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury, Wells, the Quantock and Mendip Hills, the Somerset Levels and the cities of Bristol and Bath within easy reach.  Bristol airport is less than half an hour’s drive away.

A Google Map has been embedded on this page and is a 3rd party provided service and may not be fully accessible. If you require further help with getting location information please contact us.
